Hi Garrett,
I installed the same "swivel" mount you are referring to on my Zodiac last
year for my 15 HP Evinrude. Works great and was easy to install and operate.
I looked at the Weaver Lever, but in comparison, it seemed complicated and
with more parts to go bad, and was more expensive. The B.C. produced swivel
mount (I can't remember the name) can be found at West Marine for around
US$150. It is well designed, engineered and manufactured. This mount seems
to handle the 75 lb. motor (and accompanying torque) without any problems
whatsoever.
Standard disclaimer applies.
I know this note doesn't address your problem with the excessive moment
created by your Weaver davit placement, but I thought you might like to hear
about the motor mount, in the event you decide to leave the motor on the
dinghy after all. Mine also has some "bounce", but if I don't look at the
dinghy while underway, I don't realize it's bouncing. With a reasonably high
aft cabin, I can't see the dinghy from the bridge. Out of sight, out of
mind!
Cheers,
John
