TWL: Outboards on Dinghies on Weavers

With advice from some of you some last summer, I mounted an 8' dinghy on the
swim platform with Weaver Davits. Works just fine.

However, I recently bought a 6HP outboard and have been trying to figure out
what to do with it when the dinghy is in the "up" position. It would be
great to just leave it on the dinghy. There's a local company that makes an
inexpensive mount that permits the O/B to be swivelled back to "normal"
position when the dinghy's "up", and the local O/B guy says that so long as
the engine is raised to a position not beyond horizontal, i.e. is not
inverted, all would be well.

The problem is that the set-up looks kind of weak. Because of the curve of
the gunwale, the Weavers are mounted about 1/3 of the way from bow and
stern. That means 65 lb of O/B is hanging almost 3' aft of the Weaver,
exerting quite a moment of force. Even tied up in the boat house I can
easily induce a good bounce in the rig, and so wonder what will happen when
that humongous ferry wake hits or we get into some rough seas.

To those of you with similar set-ups, am I being over-cautious, or should I
put a mounting plate on the stern and transfer the engine each time? (I've
seen the rigs that move the engine from the dinghy to a post and back, but
they take up too much space, not to mention bank account.)

Cheers, Garrett
