Subject: TWL: Florida West Coast ICW

I will be cruising in a fast trawler (12 knots, 3'4" draft) in mid April
from Dunedin, FL (just north of Clearwater) to Palmetto, FL on the Manatee
River and then on to Sarasota and Longboat Key, returning to Dunedin. If
the weather is OK I plan to go outside most of the way. However, in the
event that I end up in the ICW most of the time, I would appreciate comments
on problems to look out for in this stretch of the ICW. I have been on the
ICW south of Sarasota and remember it as being a bit shallow in spots.
The Boca Ciega Bay region seems particularly confusing as there appears to
be a choice of channels. Also, I would appreciate reference to appropriate
overnight anchorages.
