I was wondering what Windows program you are using that might pop up in the
middle of your Nav program. when you are cruising at night. Since the
major Nav programs contain tides and currents there is no need to have a
separate tide/current program running. If you are referring to the drop
down menus I just tested it out and they all remain at the same dimness as
the screen. In the days before computers had an abundance of RAM the nav
program makers used to tell you to close all your other windows before
running the program. Perhaps that is a thought if you are having trouble
with night blindness because of a window popping up. That would solve your
problem.
The Capn program not only has four choices of color for night vision, but
you can dim the screen to various shades until it is black. ( Of course then
you can't see anything.) We have had good luck with the VNS night screen.
It only has one dimness but you can adjust your computer screen if it is not
dark enough for you. Would probably have to vote for The Capn for the best
night screen. And yes, we do run with the radar and the depth sounder on,
day or night.
