In that case it was on a dual eng. offshore fishing boat with one
starting batt. for each eng. I just combined them momentarily for the
starting assist. Really worked well.

I use ONE group 31 Delco battery to start my Perkins 6.354 n/a.
(Actually it starts both Perkins and the gen set.) It weighs abt 65 lbs.
This battery will do the job just fine. You certainly dont need a 130
lb battery.

This is true , but I have 4 grp 31's paralleled for the house bank.
In your case IMHO you dont need to go through. the trouble. If you
feel
more comfortable with two grp 31's just parallel them.
On my boat I can put the house bank on line to start both engines. This
is done through the combiner switch that came with the boat.
