Although I have not tinted glass windows, I have replaced plexiglass clear
windows with a solar grey (dark #3) lexan. In retrospect it was a bit of a
mistake. I found that it was actually hotter in the pilot house, since the
black adsorbed more heat. The glare was less, but so was the night vision
    decreased.

I note that many cars in a humid enviroment seem to have problem with
distortion through the tinted plastic after time (I have had both car and
house windows with applied tint and have found the tinted glass far
superior). I would recommend a solar shade, that can be snapped over the
outside. In my sailboat, I made one out of 50% shade material obtained at
Home depot, which I took over the boom and a line stretched from the mast
forward--went over the life lines about 50 % of the way to the water. I am
going to make some snap on types for my windows of the trawler this year, and
some simmilar arrangement for the flying bridge (completely enclosed--hard
    top).
