    Robert,
I couldn't agree more. The only realistic option, especially for our
usual mom & pop operation is to not fall off the boat. The thought of my
120 lb wife trying to watch my location in the water, run the boat and
hoist me aboard, even in good weather is ludicrous. I doubt that I would
have any better luck unless the MOB fell off in the sight of the person
remaining on board. considering that most MOB situations would occur
either in bad weather or out of sight of the person remaining on board
rescue is pretty improbable. We have definite rules that we follow about
who goes where and when especially during solo night watches or bad
weather. We also have Switlick combination harness and inflatable PFDs
that we wear under those conditions. we don't have jack lines but I am
able to clip on to our very substantial rails if I for some reason have
to go forward of the Portuguese bridge or aft of the pilot house. We try
to make sure that all is battened down when ever we go to sea so that
trips forward or aft should not be necessary in bad weather.
