    Joe,

<<In fact the idea of being dragged along behind a power boat at 8 kts until
    somebody noticed, isn't very attractive.>>

Though I'm not sure being dragged by a sailboat is any better, it isn't
attractive - it can be deadly.

As part of sea survival training in the Canadian Air Force, a portion is how
to deal with being dragged through the water by your parachute. The objective
is to learn how to get out of the parachute harness ASAP. The practical demo
involves dropping you off the back of an idling minesweeper in a harness
attached to the boat. Even executing the correct procedure is far from easy
    or fun.

I don't want to even think about staying attached for more than a few
seconds. I've been at home in the water since I was 2 and I almost panicked
and once that happens you're toast.
