I'm not an authority on this Alex. But it seems to me you would want the
vessel hull acting as a windscreen and a breakwater for the MOB. I think
the likelihood of a vessel floating over the MOB to leeward would be as
likely as the MOB floating under the vessel from windward. If the vessel
was heeling from wind, the windward side would be more dangerous to the MOB.

    Ideas anyone?

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for an excellent post on a well thought out technique. I have one
    nit-picky question though:

    > So here's our process.
    >
    > I ease the vessel into a position upwind of the MOB and stop engines. As
    > our vessel drifts down towards the MOB

Chapman and (if memory serves) the USPS both recommend positioning the boat
downwind from the MOB. The reason given is that the boat will drift much
faster than the MOB and could run over him. Are you confidant that your
speedwinch would recover the MOB before that occurred?

One other question: Don't SOSpenders have lifting harness capability? Mine
are on the boat so I can't look but if that's the case could that streamline
    the hooking up process?

    Hypothermically yours,

    Alex
