When Magnum built "Phantom" they installed a massive swivel bracket for a
small 10" monitor on the aft cabin bulkhead. I always thought that it was
way overbuildt. One day after a hard run in 15 ft seas off Point Magu, the
bracket was badly bent. Now I wonder how the bulkhead survived. The moral of
this story is get professional help or overkill it! If that thing comes off
it could be very damgerous. If you get a swivel mount it needs a lock pin to
secure it in heavy seas. We attached ours with a SS cable lanyard that is
long enough that it swings and contacts a metal object. If the sea gets
rough the banging of the lock pin will drive you nuts long before you damage
    the monitor.

    'lo List,

Does anyone on the List have any suggestions on mounting TV's and VCR's on
    wall mounts?

    Here's my problem:

    1) The TV and VCR in the saloon are both sitting on a wood entertainment
stand on casters. This means that whenever we are underway (and when we
    remember) we
lift the TV and VCR off the stand and put them both on the saloon sole so
that they don't end up falling and smashing when we encountered rough seas.

    2) The entertainment center (and TV/VCR) take up much needed floor space,
space that could be better suited to a built in desk for a computer and
accessories. However, the entertainment value of the TV/VCR is important and
I don't want to lose it.

    So.....

I'm wondering how other folks deal with this problem. Has anyone used one
of the wall mount systems with swivels? Is a shelving system something that
has been used successfully and how do others hold appliances of this nature
in place while underway? Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance.
