I've brought this up before! On my previous boat I had a Heart Interface
inverter and an Ample Power Charger system. Both units charged through the
Ample Power system to the house batteries. It was my understanding that the
starting battery trickle charged off the house bank. When it was charged,
no more charging current. I also had a disconnect between the house bank
and starting battery (group 27). Only had to use that in real cold weather
(didn't know about the starting button then). I would have the same system
on my present boat if I was an "affluent" trawler.
