This is my second boat with a Norcold 841, ac/propane. I think that
propane refrigeration for a boat is perfect and safe if installed
properly. I spent one and half months in the Bahamas, anchored out all
the time, and I had the same comfort as being at a dock with all the
amenities. I had no need for using the generator since my range is also
propane. When I am cruising (motoring), I turn on the inverter, at
anchor the fridge converts to propane. The perfect world except that
this is the second time that the Norcold repair man has come to fix my
fridge. Last time he changed all the systems in the back, because of a
leak (much like the smell of ammonia). He told me that the Norcold
Company fixed the problem and it should not happen again, (I'll keep my
fingers crossed). My next step will be to install 4 or 6 solar panels to
be able to run my fridge on 110 volts during the daylight then switch
to propane at night. I never run the propane during the time I am
motoring for security reasons. I feel it is to bad that nobody built
the perfect refrigeration system for boaters at a regular price like you
    can buy for your house.
