All of us need to be aware that the "No Dumping Of Black Water" will be
everywhere sooner than we expect. There will be no recourse to any logic.
Their number is far greater than ours and we are a target for their wish to
clean up the waters. We should all look to solutions to the holding tank
problem because the current crop of marine heads makes the problem
unsolvable in an acceptable way -- they use far too much water.

I have spent a little time considering this problem and I believe that the
solution can be found using the heads from the RV industry. They had to
solve the problem early on because dumping from RVs was banned years ago.
The heart of the solution is to reduce the amount of water needed for each
slush. All the solutions I have contemplated use fresh water for the
flushing. Units from SeaLand can be had that use about a pint per flush.
Units from Thetford take a little more. We have found it easier to keep the
SeaLand bowl clean than the Thetford.

As I have written before, the only real design problem with these systems is
to get the waste from the head to the holding tank. All of these units
remove the waste by gravity. This introduces a design problem (but a
solvable problem) if the holding tank is not directly under the head.

It seems to be the time to kick this issue around on TWL and see what falls
    out.
