    Steve,

    Steve,

Having been raised on a farm in Indiana, I know tractor batteries pretty
well. I recall that they were just intended for starting, not for deep
discharge. Our old John Deere would kick over pretty well with one size 24
6v. battery but on cold winter days we had to squirt a charge of starter
fluid into the carb. or we would wear the battery down before the engine
would kick over. I run a small engine on my trawler (Perkins 4-108) so a
couple of GC batteries work pretty well for starting but on really cold
November days I have to parallel my two battery banks. When that happens, I
know it is time to haul the boat for the winter.
