Snip>>
We do have almost 700 Ah in the house bank as a backup. Point is that 2 GC
batteries should be more than adequate. Just my thoughts.
>> well Bill I guess that I must be OK in the AH capacity as we have a total
of 18 CG batteries on Penta now. I use 16 in series/parralel for the house,
giving me 1800 AH and then 4 more in series/parallel for the engine and
bilge pumps ( 450 AH). The engine is an older Volvo Penta 6 cyl. - MD47
series diesel and she turns over just fine.
I have been using a house bank of 14 GC's for some time with the other 2 on
an isolated bank for the electronics but this year I installed a sealed Gel
Cel for that load and wired the 2 GC's into the house bank.
Its great as even with the 14 we run a StaPower 1500 constantly once away
from the dock to power the fridge and freezer. With these batteries we can
sit for at least 5 days without running the engine (never stayed put longer)
and that's with no gen-set.
Great way to go and like its been said, at least you can lift them!!
By the way the weight is great 'cause I needed more ballast anyway since the
commercial gear was removed.
