I have been living aboard my boat for 5 years but, until recently, have
always had another home with homeowners insurance providing personal
liability. I am finding it difficult (or very expensive) to pick up the
personal liability I need if, for example, I should run over a CA attorney
with my bicycle. Of course the lack of this "leg" of my coverage also keeps
me from getting an umbrella policy extending my limits. I have found one
company that will write a marine policy with personal liability but it is
very expensive (over double). The other problem is that when I cruise South
of Mexico I will have to pick up a temporary policy from LLoyds (or someone
else) for that duration which would suspend my boat/personal liability
    coverage.

Can any of you who are live aboards without a home or apartment tell me how
    you solve this problem?
