TWL: RE: 8Ds battery versus two Golf Cart in series

Since I've been a subscriber to this list, I've seen a number of references
to using golf cart batteries is boats. What exactly is the particular
advantage of doing this? Are they lighter than conventional marine
batteries, or cheaper, ore more effective in storing charge or what?
