Here is a quote from a friend of mine who lived for awhile on his 49-foot
TRANSPAC sailbote in Kodiak. It's another "brick in the wall" for the
listee who decided against the move.
Quote
The tides in Anchorage are about 20-30 feet. The answer is no to live
aboard. The folks who boat in Anchorage boat out of either Seward or Homer.
These are wonderful ports. There are more gunkholes in AK than you can
imagine.
He can smile if he likes the outdoors, wildlife or great people. Anchorage
is a little different than rural AK. Most of us call it Los Anchorage but
the place still embodies the AK spirit. It is cold in winter but you can
ski right there. It snows a hellava lot, but the folks are prepared. 4WD
is a necessity and is used to do what it is designed to do, get you there
safely.
Most folks who come to this state never leave, mentaly.
Unfortunately I am at work or I could shoot you a picture I took of ANC
airport after their first snowfall last week.
Hope this helps. Lotsa wonderful web sites. Good airline connections
Alaska Air is the best. I am sorry they lost a plane and got all the
publicity but I trust these guys more than any other airline. They are used
to dealing with absolutly shi..y wx.
Let me know if I can be of any futher service.
