I looked at Nevada, Texas and Florida. Florida worked out best for me. No
income tax, no property tax on boats, no sales tax if you've had the boat
for 6 months, and the "intangibles tax" is in year 1 of a 3 year phase out.
I set up a banking relationship with First State Bank of the Florida Keys
http://www.keysbank.net/personal.html , mail forwarding with VMFS of
Islamorada http://vmfs.com/ and will get a Florida license, voter
registration, and file a "domicile" form long before my departure date of
9/01.
I wanted to be able to do all my banking electronically and get and pay
bills electronically (CheckFree) http://www.checkfree.com/ , some banks are
more progressive than others.
I use a Qualcomm 960 phone, Verizon carrier and a data-on-the-go card
(digital and analog) from Kyocera driven by networked ThinkPad and Toshiba
laptops. My expectation is the Bahamas will be a challenge but the trips
down and back should provide easy access to the web and E-mail.

(SNIP) plan to sell the house and live aboard for 2 years. We have been
trying to
pick a state that we could potentially move to after the cruise, but also
one that has lower taxes. Big problem it seems. We are in Mi. now and I am
tired of the winter.
Where did you pick?
