This message is from Georgs and forwarded at his request.
Greetings!
Solomons 2000 was indeed the largest gathering ever of trawlers and
trawler people.
The fifth annual West Marine Trawler Fest in the Chesapeake attracted
1,220 people and 102 boats, an increase of 58 per cent over the 771
attendees one year ago, with one boat more than last year.
Everyone had a great time. Much was learned in seminars and
demonstrations. Many boats were bought and sold, starting with an Island
Gypsy 36 only two hours into the spectacular in-water trawler show. The
shoreside expo tent was busier than ever.
Close to 150 people took advantage of the Try A Trawler at Trawler Fest
program sponsored by Mainship Corporation which takes folks out on the
water for a 90-minute orientation cruise.
The 101-year-old William B. Tennyson operated by Calvert Marine Museum
was the beneficiary of an auction of donated marine equipment. A total
of $4,508 was raised, including a winning bid of $898 for a four-pack of
marine toilet paper that regularly retails at West Marine for $1.99.
Registrants came from as far as California and Canada. Seminar
presenters included Howard Chen of Jet-Tern Marine in China. Among
sponsors was Perkins Sabre, the engine manufacturer, with Andrew Freeman
from the factory in England participating.
My great thanks to sponsors, exhibitors and presenters who helped make
Solomons 2000 such a huge success.
