    FWIW - While GPS and/or Inertial do give Aircraft the capability of going
    direct via a "Great Circle" - the reality is that ATC (Air Traffic Control)
    by and large still precludes it. Sometimes (mostly in the middle of the
    night), in someplace (mostly North America) YES, but generally not in any
    congested airspace like the eastern US.

    But you're right about what you see on the water.
