I installed a West Marine Weatherbase V on Blue Max in '96 -- It was a bear
to install as I had to run wires from the top of the mast thru the engine
room and up into the salon. Also had to wire in an outside temperature
sensor. The wireless type would really appeal to me if I was to do it again.
I wired direct to the 12 volt system with a resister to drop it to 9 volts
(no battery required this way) and it has worked good since. The only
problem was the internal light failed within a year, West Marine replaced it
but it failed again so I just left it.
The other thing that was a hassle... The wind sensor -- I designed a
stainless bracket to mount it, otherwise the instructions would have you
mount it on a piece of PVC pipe which I didn't think would hold up on a boat.
