And who are they to think they can overrule "the populace" in such a matter? "Official timekeepers," indeed.
It is, as another lister pointed out, nothing but an odometer rollover. Official timekeepers can insert leapseconds to keep the earth orbit
and rotation in agreement, but they have no "official" (officious?) authority over what century, or millenium, anyone calls it.
