Assumed Position/was [Nml] H.O 211 glitch?

Subject: Assumed Position/was [Nml] H.O 211 glitch?

Guys:

My navigation learning has been via a tutoring with 211 by a WWII
Merchant Marine, captain, and an ex-German WWII U-boat captain using a
DR plot method, and by books. Why would anyone want to use the assumed
position method, other than the inspection tables being used require
their use? It adds extra complication in the calculations. 211 drove me
nuts, I was prone to making mistakes with it. I like the DR plot
because if you get an overly large Dist. OFF you know something i going
off with the plot/calculations.
