Toothpaste is indeed a very good, fine polish. That sounds like a
good solution to an annoying problem.

The Freiberger I referred to was pretty tired and the problems came
mainly from a combination of wear and neglect. The Yachtsman,
however, strikes me as a very no-frills instrument with limited filter
options and a micrometer that seemed overly difficult to read. Not
having used the larger models, I have no direct information on them.
