When I first saw a traverse board in a museum, I thought it would be a handy
thing to have in the cockpit in a thunderstorm when too much is going on to go
below to write and it is too wet to do any navigation with pencil and paper in
the cockpit. I have never tried it thought. I just write on the fiberglass
with a wooden pencil and scrub it off afterwards. It adds a different slant
to the words "deck log". I keep a list of course changes and log readings.
Later, I can plot it. I also write on the boat when racing. I find it easier
than trying to remember times at marks and headings on each tack.
