    If IC is indeed zero (along the arc), the problem *must* be elsewhere.

    Given the magnitude of the error, dip or personal error sound like the
    likely culprits. Knowing you, I would discount personal error.

    While on the topic of personal error; if a crewmember on a man of war,
    privateer or pirate ship lost a hand in an encounter and it was replaced
    with a hook, were they allowed to stand watch near the ship's compass?

    I they only lost a finger, did they get a little hook to replace the finger?
