    Wolfgang Koeberer, you wrote:
"Nobody is discussing the things any more that this list presumably is all
    about: navigation."

Yep, it's called meta-discussion, and it can be deadly for a list
(http://www.fitz-claridge.com/node/18). Unfortunately, in this case, there have IN FACT
been real problems with the list. Messages have failed to distribute.
Messages from months ago have been re-distributed. The entire list shut down for a
while. The irbs archive address and one member of long-standing were bounced
from the list for no apparent reason. These problems are intermittent, so if
you don't follow the list on a daily basis, you might believe that they are
    imaginary.

The one reply to the list (as of this writing) in the past 48 hours that is
about navigation is extremely welcome, but ironically it's a reply to a
message that was sent four months ago and somehow the list sent out a duplicate
copy of it last week. That's a REAL bug, intermittent though it may be.

    And you wrote:
"Instead messages to the "world" are being sent and responded to by real
    people like Pavlov's dog."

Sorry about that. That was my fault. I sent a test message ONLY to see if I
would get a copy. I didn't need replies, and I should have said that in the
message. But thanks to everyone who DID reply --I thought the replies were
    rather fun, in fact!

    OK. Enough meta-discussion for me.
