There's an item for sale on ebay right now that might be of interest for the
list. The item number is 7016731225. Here's a link which will work for at
least a week:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7016731225 .
It's a navigation workbook dating from 1886 from a (UK) navigation class.
The seller has posted almost thirty images of pages many of which are clearly
legible. These are examples of the practice of navigation teaching, rather
than the practice of navigation. So, for example, there are several examples of
working lunars (by Thomson's tables) despite the fact that they were
essentially obsolete by this date. But they're still interesting! There are also a
couple of examples of "Verification of a Latitude by Double Altitudes by
Sumner's Method". There are notes on the pages in a couple of places where the
student notes that the results do not agree with "the book". Apparently, this was
a textbook for the "Extra Master's License exam" (I think I have that name
right), but I don't know anything else about it.
Please note: I am not affiliated with ebay.com, and I am not involved in
selling this book in any way. My comments here should not be construed in any
way as my approval or disapproval of anyone selling or buying this item. My
lawyer will call your lawyer. <g>
