    Thanks Frank,

An inveterate and sentimental pack rat I am!

But your post begs the question:

If people are buying used Nautical Almanacs on e-bay, what are they using
    them for?

Nautical décor of course. It's considered chic to display items or for the
person displaying the items to have big JuJu in displaying them. They don't
even have to understand what the almanacs/gear are really used for.
    Case in point:
The CPA I use to complete my income taxes has his office full of nautical
motifs yet has no clue what most of them are used for. He asks me every time
I go to his office to explain what one piece of gear's or another's function
    is.
I've also given him a few old hard backed N.A.s for his office's décor.

Re: the British Almanac, I cannot tell you what they look like. As far as I
know, most of us here in Canuckistan purchase our almanacs from the "Great
Satan" ;-^). It is possible, however, that the Canadian Navy -- assuming
that they still use astro -- purchase theirs from mother England.

I know for sure that as late as the mid-1980's, the Royal Canadian Air Force
was purchasing their sight reduction tables (AP3270) from England but their
Air Almanacs from the USA. That was when the latter was published in 6 month
    intervals.

    Robert

Laughing my butt off on this reply. Canuckistan and the Great Satan.
    Priceless!
