    Yes, Herbert was making a little joke. Normally you can't see Venus at
    inferior conjunction unless it's transiting! But in fact, it can also be seen when
    the ecliptic latitude at conjunction is very high. I've followed it right
    through, watching that slim crescent roll around from west facing to east facing
