    Many thanks for the responses to my posting. No question modern tables and calculators are preferred in this day and age.

    To clarify I was not so interested in the application of a traditional slide rule to celestial navigation, I was more interested in learning more about specialized slide rules like the Bygrave or a method like the globe like instrument mentioned in Bowditch that solves the spherical triangle directly.

    It would seem to me that the globe device if it had sufficient accuracy could be used to solve a lunar distance though I doubt the accuracy of scales would allow for this.

    Zvi, you mentioned some familiarity with the Bygrave. I would be interested in learning more when you get a little more time.
