    Hi,

If you know the history of C. Plath, you know that the founder Carl, purchased David Filby's Hamburg business in 1862 which launched Plath's sextant business.

I thought some might be interested in seeing some pictures of one of the early Filby octants, Ca 1840. It is in remarkable condition. http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1486825

It is the twin of the one that is featured in Fredrich Jerchow's history of C. Plath,
"From Sextant to Satellite Navigation, 1837-1987" on page 25 which could be of this instrument except for its later style single peep sight which is also threaded for a telescope.
