Suspect it's a personal issue; that individuals feel comfortable with
handling a weight that suits them. This is backed up by previous postings in
times gone by - people have compared a sextant with a rifle, and gone on to
say that they preferred, for example, a heavier weapon for optimum
stability.
Having some experience of both different brands and weights of sextants and
rifles, can say that the 'heavier is better' argument doesn't work for me,
but accept that it does for others. Its no big deal.
