Next message: Bill: "Re: Suitable Sextants"
In my previous message on the subject I did not address
the cost-effectiveness.
And the questions of "effectiveness" at all.
(Because I think that all this sextant business is not about
effectiveness. A GPS and a battery-powered spare GPS is by far the
most reliable and most effecdtive tool of navigation.
Or, if you are preparing to the doomsday, have TWO SEPARATE AA-battery
powered GPS, each at $140 at K-mart).
From the effectiveness point of view,
Bris sextant is really a revolutionary invention.
1. You can make it yourself at almost no cost and without any handiwork
skills.
2. I bought THE last one sold by Cassens-Plath.
But I can give you detailed instruction how to make
one yourself.
3. It fits to your T-shirt pocket.
4. Never needs adjustment or repair. You can drop it on the floor.
(the only concern is not to loose it, it is so small)
5. I believe it permits you to determine your position within 5-10 miles
in the good weather conditions. Which should be enough for
a landfall in an ocean crossing or even in finding most islands.
6. I am ready to publish detailed instructions how to make one and
how to use one, if there is any interest.
Alex.
