Celestial navigation is not used anymore, nor even teached or referred to, for air navigation, since the improved reliability of the current nav instruments. We have, for long haul flights, inertials platform (3), gps (2) and 3 flight computers cross checking all the data. I don't know if the greater speed of late airliners could be a problem for the celnav.

The short discussion on negative altitudes and my reference to the Air Almanac and HO 249 prompts me to ask the following questions:
1. Is anyone still using the Air Almanac? Has there been any discussion pertaining to discontinuing it?
