This was repeated several times in this discussion:

    > Buy a new Astra IIIb, or a used metal sextant if you have to.

I want to remind that there are still new Russian sextants
available. Not in the sense that they were made yesterday,
but in the sense that they were never used:-)

And not only on e-bay, and not only from former Soviet Union.
I don't want to advertise concrete sellers on this list
but little web search shows shops (In Europe) which sell
Freibergers and SNO-T "in perfect condition, with two scopes for 370EU"
    and SNO-M for 250-280EU.
As I understand, these sellers will ship worldwide,
give some warranty and do repare. They sell spare parts and
re-silver mirrors. And they speak perfect English:-)

A new (made in 1990-s but never used, in factory wrapping)
SNO-T with 2 scopes and spare mirror can be bought on e-bay
from a Russian or Ukrainian seller
for $300 or 320 plus $100 for shipping and money transfer.

    Alex.
