The King James Bible uses "shew" instead of "show." So one would assume
it in common use in the 17th century.
Or maybe not -- I have a friend whose PhD thesis was on English bible
translations, she claims that James's scholars used obsolete-for-them
English in the KJV to give it an air of ancient authority (much like
many of the prayers we hear in church today).
