Excellent points. I recall a speaker at Chicago's Strictly Sail" show. His
gripe being that J boats (racing--mostly) come standard with flush
through-hull fittings, while $100K to 300K boats do not. Who needs the
extra drag? Cost per fitting to move from proud to flush in his
estimation--$1 each. Maybe $5-$10 total. His point, until we complain en
masse the marine industry won't change.
Playing devil's advocate, perhaps the proud fitting is less prone to failure
given a flange that prevents it from sliding into the salon and watering
down the champagne?
