I'm going to have to build a backyard winter observatory. Too much of the
year is too cold for sextant work.
My thought is to put a plexiglass dome in the roof of a small, lightweight,
insulated structure that I could heat with a 110 volt heater in a few
minutes. Has anyone done that? Where would I get the dome?
If it was sufficiently lightweight, it could be transported to beach
locations for winter sights using a natural horizon:

out the wind would be a blessing.
Ideally it should accomodate two people for teaching, but that would greatly
diminish it's portability.
