<Is mercury available these days anywhere?>

    Alex-
Readily. You may find it a bit pricey, and bear in mind it is very much
considered toxic waste because it is toxic, being able to pass in through
    the skin.

Any "scientific supply" or chemical supplier should still be able to sell
it to you, or a local "botanica" which is a sort of voodoo-herbal-religious
supply store found in Caribbean immigrant neighborhoods in the US. They sell
small vials, probably more expensive than the chemical supplier. If you mail
order it, remember it is after all mercury--shipping will be higher than
    you'd think for a cup of "stuff".<G>

All considered...I'm not sure I'd want any quantity of it around, knowing
I'd eventually spill it somehow, or have to dispose of it eventually.
