    Dear George,
    Thank you very much for your explanation and
    for clearing the confusion.

    I did not know Bougainville's logbook is available,
    even in English. The Russian translation I have is apparently
    not from the logbook, but from the abridged version
    of it published as a book after the voyage
    (I site the publication data in my message, the whole book
    is 265 pages, this cannot be the whole logbook).

    Your comparison of the Russian and English translations show
    that many mistakes were introduced in the process of publication
    of this abridged version, and maybe in the Russian translation
    as well.

    Still I am curious, what was the error of his determination
    of coordinates of Cape Vierges (see my message under the
    title Lunars in 1766).
