I'm willing to concede that you have good reasons for believing Bowditch
didn't invent that method, but am still inclined to think he did.
When I first came to realize that American claims regarding Bowditch were
largely a pile of horsefeathers I developed a sour attitude toward him. But, with
time, I came to see what an important contribution he made with his corrected
and revised version of Moore. Above all, I think he had wonderful common
sense, and knew what was important and what was not.
Got to go now. Sure wish we could sit down together and discuss our views of
the various old navigation manuals and writers.
