You are welcome, George. By the way, my 1828 edition of Norie (in storage
now) gives a version of Dunthorne as the first method. This was rigorous,
requiring six place logs and interpolation. Don't know when that was taken out in
favor of Krafft. Probably the best way to look at an early Norie is at the
website Frank alerted us to a while back.
As I recall, the only clearing method given by Mendoza del Rios in his own
nautical tables is his improvement of Krafft. I don't believe he mentions the
approximate method we've been talking about (Norie's fourth). If anyone is
interested I'll dig the Rios volume out.
