    I have heard that the largest tankers and container ships take many
    miles to stop. I do not imagine that they turn very easily either, so
    perhaps this is why they do not watch where they are going: if they see
    a small boat directly in their path doing anything may be out of the
    realm of the possible.

    Assignment: For extra credit do the "back of the envelope" estimate of
    a container ship, its weight, and its power and determine what its
    stopping distance actually is.
