I've just read the posts made today (May 23d) by Herbert, Jan, and George.
This is NOT throwaway stuff. It should be placed where anyone who's thinking of
writing on the subject of nineteenth century navigation will find it. With
luck, someone may study it carefully, absorb the implications, and write a solid
history.
