Jim Thompson asked some interesting questions about the Sumner line, which
have been well answered by Herbert Prinz.

I wonder if he is aware that a book has just appeared, title "Line of
Position Navigation: Sumner and Saint-Hilaire: the two pillars of modern
Celestial Navigation", by Michel Vanvaerenbergh and Peter Ifland. Ifland is
the author of that wonderful book on navigational instruments, "Taking the
Stars"

I haven't seen the new book yet, but hope to soon. It's published by
Unlimited Publishing LLC. It includes a reprint of the entire 1843 first
edition of Sumner's book, and translations of two articles by St Hilaire.
