Hey guys, thanks for the inputs.Good stuff and good advice.Mr. Wepster sent
me a good spreadsheet for this attempt that I already printed and will take
with me.I'll get to the websight and print the info that Mr. Prinz suggested
after this post is sent.Mr. Sherman sent info about astronomical software
that was very usefull in precomputing everything. So,I'm ready to go attempt
this experiment. It is rather intimidateing as it appears to be the most
demanding exercise in navigation. The problem of takeing some of the
observations outside of the 2000 to 0200 hrs. is I will have other more
pressing duties.During the times of the anchor watches will be the only time
I will have a quiet stationary vessel that I can be alone with no
distractions.I will most likely only do the observations and collect the
data on this trip.I'll post my observations when I get back so interested
parties can help with the calculations.A SAR vessel is a Search and Rescue
vessel. The vessel is scheduled to run out to sea during the day and practice
SAR techniques and anchor during the night.
Mr. Hebard, thanks for the link to Mr. Luykz. We're playing tag right now but
will connect in the future.I still don't understand why one needs to measure
the angle between the 2 stars and whether the 2 stars are brought into
confluance during this proceedure.Does one bring the 2 together in the
center of the scope and move the image to first one wire then the other? What
am I not seeing?
