Probably easier to use a paper strip, tick off the two
points, and measure for your map check. For the meter to
yard conversion, just subtract 10 percent ... remember this
is all pretty rough in actual use. As you wrote it, I think
you should have one more set of brackets: Square root of
((difference in eastings)squared + (difference in
northings)squared); just to make it a bit more clear.
I thought the Russians used a different number of mils in
their compasses. I'm pretty darn sure the Chinese mortars
didn't use 6400 mils for their circle but I can't remember
right now how many there are. How does your Bussol read up
at the north end?
