Fred,
I haven't used many different sextants, but feel reasonably confident the
maker of yours would know the difference between "correction" and "error." So
if the certificate says "correction," apply it with the sign given. That
worked for me when taking lunars using a sextant with certificate errors up
to 1.'0 of arc.
Perhaps some certificates do give it as "error" and show the + or -
accordingly. I'd like to know.
